How Kybella Treatment Works
During your consultation at Serene Med Spa, your provider will evaluate the fat under your chin to determine whether it is submental fat. This is important because Kybella works specifically on submental fat and may not be as effective on other types of fat.
At your Kybella treatment session, your practitioner will mark a grid of tiny dots on the treatment area beneath your chin. This grid serves as a roadmap for precise Kybella injections. Using a fine needle, your provider will then inject small amounts of Kybella into the fatty tissue, following the mapped-out pattern.
Treatment sessions are typically quick, lasting about 15 to 20 minutes, with only minor discomfort. Because Kybella precisely targets fat cells in the double chin area without affecting surrounding tissues, no downtime is required—you can return to your normal activities right after treatment.

How Many Injections and Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
The total number of Kybella injections and treatment sessions you’ll need depends on the amount of submental fat being treated. On average, most patients require one to three sessions, typically spaced about six weeks apart.
You may begin noticing results as early as three weeks after your first treatment. Once you achieve your desired results, your sessions will end — and the results are permanent, as treated fat cells will not return.
How Long Does a Kybella Treatment Last?
Kybella is a long-term treatment that destroys fat cells under your chin so they can no longer store excess fat. Results usually last for several years and could be permanent in some cases.
This is because your body generally only creates new fat cells to replace those that die naturally. It will not replace the cells destroyed by the deoxycholic acid as long as your weight remains stable.
However, your body will create new fat cells in your submental region if you gain a substantial amount of weight after your treatments. These new cells would effectively take the place of those you lost during Kybella, causing your double chin to return.
