At Serene Med Spa, our clinicians use Juvéderm, Radiesse, and Sculptra injectable fillers. These injectables are safe and come with different ingredients that target different issues. What follows is a list of the more popular ingredients used in dermal fillers across the world.

Hyaluronic Acid

One of the most common ingredients used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a natural molecule that is synthesized in your body already. However, as we age, hormonal changes can affect its production. HA is partially responsible for skin moisturization, as it has a lot to do with the retention of water molecules. As our HA production goes down as we age, the end result is that our skin becomes saggier and begins to dry out. Many of the dermal fillers used by our clinicians at Serene Med Spas use hyaluronic acid as the active ingredient.

Poly-L-lactic Acid

Sculptra is a dermal filler that uses Poly-L-lactic acid. A safe substance for use in the body, Poly-L-lactic acid works differently than hyaluronic acid. Instead of replacing the lost volume itself, this injectable is designed to safely dissolve in the body within a short period. Before it fully dissolves, however, it acts as an enzyme to stimulate the body’s own collagen production. The end result is the same: a fuller, healthier look.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA)

Some fillers use this ingredient as their active element. Suspended as microscopic particles in a gel, CaHA is also found naturally in our bodies. As a filler, it is used on deeper wrinkles and lines and stimulates collagen production. It is also a thicker filler. Results usually last a bit longer than hyaluronic acid fillers, sometimes even up to a full year.
